SysMIC
I am co-PI on a £1 million project called SysMIC (Systems
Training in Maths, Informatics
and Computational Biology), which starts in January 2012. The project, funded by the BBSRC, has been awarded to a consortium consisting of UCL, Birkbeck, the OU and the University of Edinburgh. The aim of the project is to develop an e-learning course covering the mathematical skills that are essential to the emerging field of systems biology.

Research Interests and Collaborations
My research is in two distinct areas: immunoinformatics and biomedical text mining. Currently I am focusing on:
- Analyzing the antigenicity of epidemic influenza A in collaboration with Dr John McCauley (Director of the WHO Influenza Centre, NIMR)
- Predicting immune responses to therapeutic factor VIII used in the treatment of haemophilia A in collaboration with Dr Dan Hart (Consultant in Haemostasis, Barts/Queen Mary) and Dr Keith Gomez (Consultant in Haemostasis, Royal Free/UCL Medical School)
- Reducing the immunogenicity of adeno-associated virus, a vector for gene therapy, in collaboration with Dr Amit Nathwani (Reader in Haemostasis, UCL Cancer Institute)
- Developing text mining methods to support the construction of microbial metabolic pathways with Dr Irilenia Nobeli (Lecturer, Biological Sciences, Birkbeck) and Unilever.
For more information about these projects and my wider research interests, see my research page.
