molecular cell biology of bacterial pathogenesis

Our laboratory is part of the Institute of Structural and Molecular Biology (ISMB) within the Department of Structural and Molecular Biology, University College London and the Department of Biological Sciences, Birkbeck, University of London.

The ISMB provides an outstanding scientific environment conducive to world-class research in protein science, and seeks to exploit knowledge of protein function to understand human diseases.

Our current research addresses the molecular cell biology of bacterial pathogenesis using a combination of biochemical, cell biology and imaging approaches. In particular we study the obligate intracellular bacterial pathogen Chlamydia trachomatis, the principal cause of sexually transmitted disease and infertility in the Western world and preventable blindness (trachoma) in developing nations.

We acknowledge the following agencies for financial support of our research:

The Royal Society

The Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council

The Medical Research Council

The Wellcome Trust
