Welcome to my home page. I am part of the Toxin research group based at Birkbeck College . I am working on alpha-toxin produced by the gas-gangrene bacterium Clostridium perfringens. I have determined the X-ray crystal structure of alpha-toxin from C.perfingens strain NCTC8237, and at present i am working on a new strain of alpha-toxin (SWCP) which differs by 20% in sequence to previous alpha-toxin strains isolated. I am also solving the structure of alpha-toxin bound to inhibitor molecules.

I graduated from Edinburgh University in june 1996, obtaining a degree in Molecular Biology. Aside from research, I am a keen follower of England's Cricket team (which requires a lot of dedication and a belief bordering on fantasy) . I enjoy playing cricket, and have appeared for Birkbeck thirds with leg spin to rival that of Shane Warne.
